The Multi-talented benefits of Garlic

Updated on March 22, 2014

My personal Experience with Garlic

Do not be deceived by garlic's over-powering aroma.Have you ever heard of the term "desperate times desperate measures" ? Well garlic was there for me when I needed it the most.Garlic will help your body to over-come the negative effects, that something as simple as the common cold will have on your body.As a child,my mother use to dice cloves of garlic and neatly fold them into slices of brown bread. That was how i consumed garlic in order to fight the common flu. Some people prefer to make garlic tea, using a clove of garlic. However, the heat applied during the boiling process will only decrease the benefits of garlic.

Due to its anti-fugal properties, garlic can be used to treat ring-worms,that are commonly found in young children. As a child I have been a victim of this disease and garlic has most certainly done a good job at clearing up my skin up.Additionally, it can be used to soothe pimples for those who suffer from acne (like my self).Garlic consists of anti-inflammatory properties that will assist in soothing red pimples and helps to heal the pimples faster. It is very important to use garlic in moderation,as garlic can be a bit harsh on the skin at times.

During, the mornings a clove of garlic occasionally can be used to detox the body;by doing this my immune system has been improved and gradually and I have gotten use to smell. However,it is important to consume garlic in moderation. It is not a sensible idea to consume garlic everyday.Try consuming it once a week, if you have not taken garlic in a while.Gradually change this pattern to every fourth day.The reason why I suggest this approach is because garlic also helps to lower the blood pressure level a little bit too much.In my case, garlic nearly knocked me out cold. Therefore it is necessary to take this precaution.

DO NOT CONSUME GARLIC IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO IT.

Allyl sulphides help to activate the NrF2 process. Which intern helps to inhibit the development of cancerous cells. Thus, reducing your chances of getting cancer("Garlic." Garlic. N.p., n.d. Raw garlic juice may be used to immediately stop the itching due to rashes and bug bites.

Asthma

The compounds found in garlic can help to cure asthma. Garlic consists of a high concentration of vitamin C and this is very good, especially if your asthma consists of a cold like nature. Garlic provides twice as much vitamin C as tomatoes .Vitamin C helps to neutralize free radicals. These are unstable molecules that cause contraction of airway smooth muscles in asthma sufferers to constrict. According to the book entitled Pharmacodynamic Basis of Herbal Medicine, garlic should NOT be used for treating asthma if it is at an advance stage( Ebadi, Manuchair. "Pharmacodynamic Basis of Herbal Medicine." Google Books. N.p., n.d. Web. 22 Mar. 2014).

Ear Infections

The webpage entitled Nourishing Times states that garlic oil can be used to treat fear ear infections and "the best recipe to use is simply twp-three cloves of garlic crushed and mixed with two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil".Olive oil and garlic are gifts of nature to man. Combining the two will help to maximize the effects that garlic will have on an ear Infection. It is very important that the solution created is never kept at room temperature. It should always be kept in the fridge("Nourishing Time." Nourishing Time. N.p., n.d. Web. 22 Mar. 2014. <http://nourishingtime.com/garlic-oil-for-ear-infections-why-you-should-make-your-own/>.)

Tick Bites

According to WebMd "scientists have compared the number of tick bites in people who take high doses of garlic compared to people who do not take garlic. High doses of dietary garlic, over about a five-month period, seem to reduce the number of tick bites".

What causes garlic to have an over-powering aroma.

Photo-chemicals are responsible for the sharp smell produced by garlic. The term photo- chemicals can be referred to as, the process whereby a chemical reaction is generated using light according to dictionary.com.In this case the light would derive from the process of photosynthesis.Whenever garlic is crushed or chewed;the plant cells are being damaged. This causes enzymes that are stored in cell vacuoles, to initiate the break down of several sulphur containing compounds that are stored in the cell fluids. The Sulphur found in garlic is mainly derived from Alliin. Alliin is responsible for the hot sensation of raw garlic. However, sulphur is largely responsible for the smell and taste that garlic has .
